Guiding Optical Wave w/ SAW and Voltage

Guiding Optical Wave w/ SAW and Voltage

In this study, mechanisms that on-wafer integrated acoustic and voltage control of optical wave propagation are explored experimentally. It may have potential application in pulsed HAMR for reducing heating of NFT.

Template Growth for Uniform Grain Size Distribution

3nm Au nanoparticles are self-assembled on protected MgOunderlayer followed by deposition of a thin layer of adequate grain boundary material. Au nanoparticles are, then, selectively etched away, leaving cavities formed by the grain boundary material. Sputtered FePtat elevated temperature will epitaxial grow on the MgOunderlayer at the bottom of the cavities, creating microstructure conforming to the self-assembled Au particles.

Machine Learning for HDD Data Detection

Machine Learning for HDD Data Detection

We have established some of the most fundamental understanding of using neural networks to perform data detection for HDD channels. For medium noise dominated channel, ML exhibits significant BER gain while at par with conventional channel for white Gaussian noise dominated ones. With multi-read setup in TDMR, multi-reader ML channel presents significant advantage over the conventional one, which could bring significant ADC gain for HDDs.
