Bio

Benjamin Friedman is a PhD student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and a member of DSSC. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh, the neighboring university of Carnegie Mellon. Before beginning his PhD program, Benjamin interned at DSSC as a research assistant. His background is in electronics and devices and photonics testing.

Research

Ben's research interests lie in the photonics used in heat assisted magnetic recording technology. He is exploring the design, fabrication, and testing of integrated photonic devices on-chip in order to control optical waves using electro-optics and MEMs modulators.
