Bio

Yuwei Qin is a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in Carnegie Mellon university, supervised by Prof. Jimmy Zhu. He received B.Eng degree from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 2015. His current research focus is to develop learning-algorithm based data detection channel for high capacity data storage systems. Previously, he also used micromagnetic modeling to study various impacting factors of recording medium for heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR).

Research

Yuwei's research interest is to develop more advanced data storage systems to meet the ever-increasing demand for data. His current research focus is to explore how to take advantage of the learning-based algorithms to build more intelligent and self-adaptive data reading channels for future generation storage systems:

  • Machine learning based data detection channel for data storage systems
  • Design more intelligent learning algorithms
  • Chip design for neural network-based communication channels
