Carnegie Mellon's Data Storage Systems Center (DSSC) hosted their fall technical review last week. The agenda featured sessions in hard disk drive (HDD) heads and media, HDD servos and channels, tape systems, patterned media, heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), chip-based systems, and optical systems.
Over 100 participants attended, including industrial affiliates, faculty, staff, and students. The center also hosted a number of guests from companies that are considering membership.
During the review, DSSC researchers delivered talks and poster sessions to update the center's members, invited guests, and other DSSC personnel on current research progress. The technical reviews are held twice a year, in the fall and spring.
