ECE Hosts Local STEMM Students
October 10, 2013
More than 30 enthusiastic Pittsburgh area high school juniors and seniors from the Western Pennsylvania Summer STEMM Academy spent the morning of July 30th at Carnegie Mellon University. Students toured campus labs and saw the things they studied come to life, thanks to Mechanical Engineering Professor Jonathan Cagan who coordinated the tours. Highlights included ECE’s MEMS Lab, the Nanorobotics Laband the Thin Film Manufacturing Lab.
The Summer STEMM Academy is a four-week program for rising high school students, during which they have the opportunity to interact with STEMM professionals. The academy experience allows students to participate in panel discussions and field trips to universities, research labs, and STEMM-related businesses.
This is the second year CMU faculty and staff hosted these tours, which demonstrate how daily lives are impacted by these important disciplines.
