Program schedule

Location

The MORIS Workshop will be held on the Carnegie Mellon Campus at the University Center. The University Center can be found at location 80, near the center of the campus map.

Reception

On Sunday, September 23, there will be a reception to welcome MORIS participants. The reception will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the McKenna/Peter/Wright Room in the the University Center. The registration desk for the MORIS workshop will also be open at this time and participants who have pre-registered or who need to register may do so at this time and pick up their conference kit including abstract digest and information about the area.

About the conference

MORIS 2007 will feature invited speakers from industry and academia who will address all topics related to thermo-magnetics and magneto-optics, from basic theory and physics through applications, including materials, components, measurements, system design, simulations, devices, and high-density recording.

Thermo-magnetic physics has progressed as its use in the recording process for Magneto-Optical disks has spread toward application to HDDs and MRAMs. In addition, magneto-optical effects have been actively studied for magnetophotonic crystals in new functional devices.

Subject areas in the workshop include:

Publication

Deadline: September 7, 2007

Selected papers from the MORIS 2007 workshop will be published in March 2008 in a special issue of the Journal of the Magnetics Society of Japan (JMSJ). We strongly recommend that authors who present at MORIS 2007 submit their papers to the journal. Please carefully read the guidelines for preparing the manuscript before submitting your manuscript.

The paper must be submitted via the MSJ web submission system. In order to distinguish MORIS papers, please select the following options during the first step of the submission process:

Manuscript Type (select one)
  • MORIS Invited Review
  • MORIS Invited Original Paper
  • MORIS Contributed Paper
Research Field First
9. MORIS Paper
Research Field Second (select one)
  • [Not Selected]
  • 9. MORIS Paper

Further detailed information is available on the MSJ website.

Posters

Poster sessions will be held in late afternoon during some days of the conference, directly following the afternoon technical sessions. The poster session is a forum for presenting and discussing new and recent developments in the field.

The area provided for each poster is about 6' (180 cm) high by 4' (120 cm) wide. Mounting materials such as tacks will be provided at the meeting. The title, authors, and affiliation should be prominently displayed. Include a sign-up sheet for reprint requests. Poster authors will have a set period when they must be at their posters and these times will be described in the final program. Times will be staggered to allow discussions with other authors.

All invited speakers are also expected to prepare posters summarizing their oral presentations for the conference and all authors are encouraged to submit a paper to the Journal of the Magnetic Society of Japan by September 7, according to the instructions on this web page.

Abstract Submission: Post-Deadline

Deadline: August 8, 2007

Authors are cordially invited to contribute papers related to thermo-magnetics and magneto-optics. Abstracts must be written in English and follow these guidelines:

  1. Limit the length of the abstract to two pages, including figures, tables, results, discussion, and references.

  2. Include the entire abstract within a 17 cm x 22 cm rectangular area for offset reproduction on A4-size paper.

  3. Format the document using the examples provided in the sample abstract. (MS Word or PDF)

  4. Submit the file (MS Word or PDF).

Because the deadline has passed, any submission received will be considered post-deadline. These submissions may not be included in the Conference Digest Book. Post-deadline authors will be notified of the acceptance of their papers by September 1, 2007.

Abstracts will be selected on the basis of their originality and the significance of the results. If an abstract is accepted, it will appear in the Technical Digests distributed at the workshop.
